A tragic incident occurred late Tuesday night on the Maduravoyal-Tambaram elevated bypass road, when a video journalist, Pratheep Kumar, was fatally struck by a speeding BMW while riding his motorcycle. The impact of the collision was so severe that Kumar’s body was thrown almost 100 meters from the crash site.
According to police reports, the luxury car allegedly hit Kumar’s motorcycle with tremendous force, throwing his body onto a lower section of the road. Authorities later discovered his body after receiving a tip from passing commuters who noticed the damaged motorcycle and abandoned car.

Kumar, a video journalist by profession, worked for a Telugu news channel and had recently partnered with a popular Telugu YouTube channel. Despite his demanding career in journalism, Kumar had taken up the job as a Rapido bike taxi rider to meet his financial obligations. He lived in the Pondy Bazaar area of Chennai.
Police recovered his identification cards from the accident scene, confirming his identity. The BMW driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle after the crash, and early investigations suggest the car’s automatic sensor system may have caused the vehicle to stop following the collision, prompting the driver to flee.
Commuters who noticed the crash site alerted the authorities, initiating a search that eventually led to the discovery of Kumar’s body. As of now, police have not apprehended the driver of the BMW, and investigations are ongoing.
